Zeolite is a detox master. The finely ground mineral earth has several mechanisms with which it can rid the human body of toxins. Similar to a sponge, zeolite binds toxins: acids, heavy metals, intestinal gases, bacterial toxins, mold toxins and many more.
Zeolite – those who eat mineral earth live healthier
Did you know that lithophages are healthier, live longer and do not seem to have cancer? Lithophages are beings who eat stones – and zeolite (a mineral earth) is nothing more than finely ground rock.
Mineral earths have long been used in livestock nutrition because they ensure healthy digestion and healthier animals. In nature, too, many animals keep taking up soil because they instinctively know how good it is for them. But not only animals are lithophages, but actually humans too – at least when they still live naturally.
For example, some northern Siberian peoples and also various Caucasus peoples are considered to be the longest-lived (and at the same time healthiest) people on earth. When it was investigated why this could be, it was found that all these peoples had one thing in common: They repeatedly consumed mineral earth.
For the northern Siberians it is the clinoptilolite zeolite (one of three forms of zeolite) and the heulandite, for the Caucasians it is also the clinoptilolite zeolite and also the montmorillonite (bentonite).
Hence, it is not surprising that most of the studies and investigations with zeolite have been carried out by Russian scientists. It showed such outstanding healing successes that zeolite should be used for any disease – even if it is only in addition to conventional medical therapy.
Impressive successes from zeolite
For skin diseases, for example, zeolite can be used both externally and internally. The mineral earth alleviates the symptoms of allergic dermatitis, psoriasis, eczema and many more after two to three treatment cycles of 10 days each.
Zeolite was even able to improve therapy-resistant acne; yes, the use of zeolite led to a healing success 8 to 10 days earlier than conventional therapy. Chronic acne or other chronic skin diseases often occur in adulthood together with an intestinal disease. Because a sick intestine often leads to sick skin. If zeolite now heals the intestine (see below), then the skin can then heal again.
Likewise, patients with fractures experience faster healing (8 days faster) if they are given zeolite pads daily for 45 days – according to a study from 2000.
In a 1999 study, people with severe burns were given either conventional treatment or a spoonful of zeolite three times a day in addition to conventional treatment. The zeolite group not only experienced faster healing, but also had a better blood count than the “normally” treated group.
The so-called open leg is a burden for many people. A weak vein, often combined with diabetes, can be the cause of these poorly healing wounds on the leg. Baths in a mixture of water and zeolite as well as the daily intake of 5 g of a zeolite-bentonite mixture can, according to case reports, already lead to success after 10 days, even for people 80 plus.
Studies from 1999 and 2003 with women suffering from anemia showed that the twice daily administration of 5 g zeolite each led to a marked improvement in iron values after 25 days at the latest. On the one hand, this was due to the fact that zeolite can also release some iron into the body, and on the other hand, mainly because zeolite heals the intestine and in this way improves iron absorption. This is because people with anemia often take in enough iron, but cannot use it because the intestine’s ability to absorb is limited.
Anyone who suffers from allergies and hay fever has increased histamine levels. These can be reduced with the help of zeolite. 40 days before the expected pollen allergy in spring, pollen allergy sufferers were given 700 mg zeolite and 300 mg bentonite combined with 5 g spirulina. The allergy did not materialize, even if it had been at the door on time for years with the first pollen count.
Several studies have also shown that zeolite improves sleep and can therefore be used for sleep disorders.
Even with acute viral diseases such as acute viral hepatitis, zeolite helps to accelerate the healing process. In one study, hepatitis in the zeolite group (zeolite and medication) healed four days faster than in the group that received medication only. However, no pure zeolite was given, but a mixture with bentonite plus a vitamin B complex.
Zeolite administration also has positive effects on other liver problems such as fatty liver liver cirrhosis or hepatosis.
Taking zeolite at the very first symptoms can prevent migraines in some patients. Oral mucosal infections also respond very well to the consumption of zeolite. And even the bone density in osteoporosis can improve if you take 3 g of zeolite daily for 8 weeks. It is also particularly noticeable that the resistance to infections increases if zeolite cleanses are carried out regularly.
But what exactly is zeolite and why does it have such a powerful healing effect?
What is Zeolite?
Zeolite is a microporous rock, i.e. a rock with tiny pores. It is a volcanic rock, and its pores were once created by the volcanic gas inclusions. The term “Zeo” comes from the Greek and means “boiling”, “lith” means “stone”. These are boiled or boiled stones that were formed millions of years ago when the glowing lava earth fell into the sea during volcanic eruptions and brought the sea to a boil.
During these events, the special crystal lattice structure of the so-called clinoptilolite zeolite was formed. (There are three forms of zeolite, the phase-like, the flaky and the crystalline zeolite. We are only concerned with the crystalline zeolite, the clinoptilolite zeolite.)
The net-like crystal lattice of the zeolite consists of silicon (SiO4) and aluminum (AlO4). No, don’t worry, the aluminum does not detach from the crystal lattice in the body. The crystal lattice is immune to numerous external influences – including gastric acid and other digestive juices. So you don’t have to worry about aluminum exposure after taking zeolite. Details on this below.
In the middle of the cavities of the crystal lattice there are cations (positively charged particles) such as calcium, magnesium, iron, sodium and potassium. The grid itself, i.e. its tiny cavities, are negatively charged, which in turn is an important prerequisite for the zeolite to detoxify so well and thus also to heal.
How does zeolite detoxify?
Zeolite can detoxify in a number of different ways. On the one hand, it has the ability to adsorb (not absorb). Adsorption means that a substance is bound to something. Absorption, on the other hand, means that the substance is absorbed / absorbed by something.
1. Zeolite detoxifies by means of adsorption
For example, excess acids are discharged via adsorption. But also bacterial toxins are detoxified by the zeolite, as well as cytokines (inflammation-promoting substances), free radicals and metabolic waste products.
So-called low-molecular substances are also bound with the help of adsorption. Low-molecular substances are, for example, water (H2O), ammonia (NH3) or intestinal gases (methane)
2. Zeolite detoxifies by means of ion exchange
At the same time, an ion exchange also takes place on the zeolite. This means that the minerals in the crystal lattice of the zeolite are attracted to the organic substances in the organism, while at the same time pollutants that are in the body – which are positively charged – have a great affinity for the negatively charged crystal lattices of the zeolite.
So pollutants migrate into the crystal lattice, while minerals migrate out. For this reason it is also very unlikely that the minerals essential for the body will be bound by the zeolite, as is often feared, and cause a mineral deficiency.
Through the ion exchange heavy metals and radioactive elements are detoxified.
Karl Hecht, Professor of Experimental and Clinical Pathological Physiology at the Charité, Humboldt University and author of the zeolite book Silicon Minerals and Health is now of the opinion:
“The more acidic the environment in which the zeolite is located, the more the silicon from the crystal lattices can also participate in the ion exchange. In this way, colloidal silicon (SiO2) is formed, which passes into the bloodstream and can represent a valuable source of silicon for humans.”
Silicon source zeolite for strong connective tissue and elastic blood vessels
Silicon is a stabilizing trace element that is particularly effective for healthy connective tissue and healthy bones. Blood vessel walls are also stabilized by the silicon, so that the cardiovascular function can also benefit from the zeolite. Since silicon deficiency is widespread today, any additional silicon source should be used.
Doesn’t aluminum dissolve from zeolite?
On this subject, Professor Hecht explains: Zeolite is generally characterized by a high level of stability against thermal influences and aggressive substances. Acids or ionizing radiation in particular can hardly harm it, at least nothing that would have a negative effect on the consumer.
Whether aluminum can be released from the zeolite depends on its silicon content. The higher it is, the more impossible it becomes for aluminum to detach itself from the crystal lattice of the zeolite. Clinoptilolite zeolite is a zeolite with a particularly high silicon content. No aluminum is released from it, so that no aluminum can be resorbed in the intestine and absorbed into the body.
The difference between zeolite and bentonite
Both mineral earths have powerful detoxifying and pollutant-binding properties. Both can detoxify via adsorption and ion exchange, whereby zeolite is said to be able to detoxify a little more strongly.
However, they differ particularly in their structure, i.e. less in their effect:
While zeolite – a volcanic rock – has the crystal lattice described above, the clay mineral bentonite (montmorillonite) is a layered rock, i.e. it is built up in layers.
If bentonite comes into contact with water, a slimy film forms which, when ingested, protects the intestinal mucous membranes. In this way, bentonite has a calming effect and is somewhat gentler than zeolite, which cannot form this slime film.
So if you want to detoxify an irritated digestive system, you can first use bentonite and later add zeolite or just continue with zeolite. However, since the mineral earth is usually consumed as part of an intestinal rehabilitation, you can start immediately with zeolite. Because in the intestinal rehabilitation you mix the mineral soil with psyllium husk powder – and the latter supplies the mucus that the zeolite does not have.
However, if you already have bentonite at home, you do not need to get additional zeolite.
Healing earth instead of zeolite?
There are many mineral earths (also called healing earths): There is the green mineral earth, the brown healing earth, the white mineral earth and many more. They differ not only in color, but also in composition. Because mineral earths usually consist of many different minerals. The effect depends of course on this composition. Because every mineral has a different effect and different properties.
For this reason, the described effects and properties of the zeolite cannot simply be transferred to all other healing and mineral earths. If you now have a healing clay at home, we advise you to find out its composition and then to research what effects the individual minerals and mineral compounds can have.
Zeolite is the master of detoxification
How well zeolite can detoxify can be seen firsthand by suffers from digestive disorders with diarrhea and / or flatulence, as zeolite binds and drains excess fluid, bacterial toxins and gases. Anyone who suffers from intestinal fungal infections will also soon get relief, as zeolite has anti-fungal properties and also absorbs and removes fungal toxins and dying fungi.
There has also long been sufficient scientific evidence on the detoxifying effect of zeolite, which shows that zeolite detoxifies, but is completely safe, i.e. it has no negative side effects – neither in the short nor in the long term.
For example, in 2012, Dr. Emmanouil Karampahtsis used three zeolite preparations to see how well they could detoxify 20 different potentially toxic substances: a mouth spray with zeolite, mouth drops based on zeolite and a zeolite powder
The highest rate of poison excretion was definitely seen in the powdered form. After consumption of zeolite powder, the excretion of aluminum and lead rose by 43 percent, of cesium by 41 percent, of nickel by 23 percent and of arsenic by 119 percent.
In the same year the journal Biological Trace Element Research read that clinoptilolite zeolite can help remove lead. Despite taking lead with food, taking zeolite at the same time reduced lead concentrations in the liver by 89 percent, in the kidneys by 91 percent and in the bones by 77 percent – compared to those who consumed lead but not zeolite.
Another interesting study from 2003 is available. Miners contaminated with lead had been asked if they would like to try a detox with zeolite. One part agreed and took 5 g of zeolite daily for five weeks. After these five weeks, the men were “clean”, that is, free from lead. The others were still exposed to lead to the same extent as five weeks earlier.
It was similar in a study with 102 men exposed to heavy metals from the city of Chelyabinsk in the Urals. They suffered from symptoms such as insomnia, headache and back pain, chronic exhaustion etc. After 30 days with 1.25 g zeolite twice a day they were largely relieved of their heavy metal exposure.
In 2009 Flowers et al. in Nutrition and Dietary Supplements said that the detoxification of heavy metals is an important part in the therapy of chronic diseases, but that the usual use of chelating agents is often associated with undesirable side effects and unfortunately also unpredictable effects. The benefit of clinoptilolite zeolite is an effective and safe alternative here. Because the zeolite would – in contrast to the chelating agents – NOT lead to an excessive removal of essential minerals and trace elements at the same time.
To test the detoxification effect of zeolite, 22 men were divided into two groups of equal size in this study. Group 1 received zeolite for 1 week, group 2 received zeolite for 30 days. A high level of heavy metal excretion was found in both groups, with the peak of excretion occurring on the 4th day. During the detoxification, no change in the electrolyte balance of the test subjects could be determined – neither after a week nor after 30 days.
Zeolite increases antioxidant levels
Antioxidants are the free radical killers. They reduce oxidative stress and thus fight the cause of almost every disease. The higher the individual antioxidant level, the better one is protected against diseases of almost all kinds.
In May 2012, a study was published in which it was shown in 25 men that the four-week administration of zeolite can increase the level of some of the body’s own antioxidants and thus increase the body’s ability to fight oxidative stress. The body’s own antioxidants include glutathione peroxidase and superoxide dismutase.
A short time later, life sciences read that micronized zeolite can protect cells from death from oxidative stress, that it also reduces oxidative stress production in the mitochondria and at the same time increases the levels of the body’s own detoxification enzymes.
Hangover? Take zeolite as soon as possible!
A January 2015 study stated that zeolite is a great idea for a hangover. Of course, the zeolite cannot lower the level of alcohol in the blood. But it can obviously reduce the symptoms of the subsequent hangover – both those of the nervous system (dizziness, concentration disorders, headaches, etc.) as well as the typical digestive complaints.
Zeolite is good for the intestines
Zeolite is also THE diarrhea remedy for both acute diarrhea and chronic diarrheal diseases. Zeolite binds many culprits that cause diarrhea: harmful bacteria, bacterial toxins, mold toxins, etc. The zeolite also binds intestinal gases and excess water. If you have diarrhea, take a spoon of zeolite first.
Many other chronic diseases – with or without involvement of the digestive system – develop (or are aggravated by it) as a result of damaged intestinal lining. Autoimmune diseases are just as much a part of it as allergies, but also migraines, heart diseases, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, rheumatism and much more. One speaks of the so-called leaky gut syndrome.
As the universities in Graz and Vienna discovered in 2015, zeolite helps with this – e.g. if regularly taken for 12 weeks – to heal and regenerate the intestinal mucus. The study by the Austrian researchers showed that zeolite reduced the inflammation values of the test subjects (52 athletes) as well as their zonulin values after 12 weeks. Zonulin is a marker for a diseased intestinal mucosa. The higher the zonulin levels, the higher the likelihood that Leaky Gut Syndrome is present.
Zeolite is a filter for clean blood
During its journey through the intestine, the zeolite forms a protective layer on the intestinal mucosa. There, as explained above, the zeolite absorbs all toxic substances that are in the intestine and prevents them from reaching the bloodstream via the intestinal mucosa and thus into the bloodstream.
Zeolite acts here as a kind of upstream filter, so that not only the digestive system, but also the blood can clear and clean itself more and more in the course of the zeolite application. Because all the poisonous substances that previously seeped from the intestine into the blood are now removed by the zeolite in good time.
Zeolite is preventative
Zeolite is also good for cancer prevention. This is not particularly surprising. Because if a substance frees the body of toxins, then an important factor is missing that would otherwise cause cancer. If this substance then also helps to clean up the intestines, raise the antioxidant level, cleanse the blood and improve nutrient utilization, it is clear that cancer now has significantly less chance.
Zeolite slows cancer growth
Other studies have shown that zeolite has, in addition to the anti-cancer properties mentioned, a few more, all of which can support the prevention and help with reversing cancer formation. Because zeolite can slow down cancer growth and activate so-called tumor suppressor genes, i.e. stimulate genes that can inhibit cancer tumors (2001, Journal of Molecular Medicine). In the corresponding article, the scientists wrote that zeolite should definitely be used in conjunction with cancer therapies.
Zeolite had also been used in dogs with various forms of cancer. The administration of zeolite led to a significant improvement in the general condition of many of the animals, to an extension of the life span, and to a shrinkage of the respective tumors. Even the local, i.e. external application of zeolite directly to areas affected by skin cancer reduced the size of the tumors.

Zeolite activates the immune system and inhibits the formation of metastases
A year later, the same scientists wrote that taking zeolite could significantly activate the immune system and reduce the formation of metastases in skin cancer. Since we also know that zeolite can mitigate a number of side effects of conventional medical cancer therapy, zeolite is always a good companion – regardless of which cancer therapy you choose and in consultation with the therapist.
However, not only with cancer, but with every disease, remember that not taking a single substance will lead to salvation and blessings. Only the interaction of several and individually suitable measures can ultimately lead to healing. Do not rely on the zeolite alone, but work with a competent holistic therapist to put together a therapy concept that is individually tailored to you.
The properties and effects of zeolite
The tasks and properties of the clinoptilolite zeolite are therefore as follows:
- detoxification
- Intestinal rehabilitation
- Purification of the blood
- Regeneration of the intestinal mucosa
- Increase the levels of antioxidants in the body
- Activation of the immune system
- Deacidification
- Protection against cancer
- Fight against fungal infections
- Inhibition of inflammation
Zeolite and drugs
Perhaps you have already wanted to take zeolite yourself and came across this statement: “Zeolite and other mineral earths such as bentonite must not be taken at the same time with medication, not even with the birth control pill or thyroid hormones, as the mineral earth can make the medication ineffective.”
The property of mineral earths to bind substances is shown here negatively, as if it were a dangerous side effect. But that is exactly the desired main effect.
Zeolite and bentonite bind harmful substances to themselves and ensure that these are excreted in the stool. Of course, some medications are also bound if they are taken at the same time as the mineral earth and thus rendered ineffective.
But that’s not a problem, because you just have to pay attention to the correct application. If you keep a two-hour gap between taking medication and taking bentonite or zeolite, the mineral earths can detoxify wonderfully without impairing the effectiveness of the medication.
Always take zeolite with plenty of water
However, zeolite can only detoxify and have a positive effect if sufficient fluids are drunk at the same time. If not, the zeolite clumps, attracts valuable body tissue and has a clogging and dehydrating effect. However, this is not the fault of the zeolite, but that of the user.
For this reason, drink a large glass of still water (300 – 400 ml) with every teaspoon of zeolite and drink 50 ml of water per kilogram of body weight throughout the day. With a weight of 60 kilograms that would be 3 liters of water.
Part of the daily fluid quantity can also be drunk in the form of herbal tea or diluted vegetable juices. Coffee, black tea, undiluted juices, purchased smoothies and plant-based milk types (rice drink, oat drink, soy drink, etc.) should not be consumed during the detox. If these drinks are part of your repertoire, they count about half of the daily amount of fluids. So if you for example, drink 300 ml of rice drink, then only add 150 ml of this to your daily target amount.
Zeolite as an internal product
If you want to buy zeolite, then remember: not all zeolites are suitable for ingestion. Because zeolite is not approved as a dietary supplement or food in many countries. That is not surprising at all, because zeolite is neither one nor the other. Zeolite, is a means of detoxification and internal cleansing.
When buying, however, make sure that the zeolite is designated as a medical product for internal use. Only then can you be sure that its quality has been checked and that it is a high-quality zeolite.
We also recommend a zeolite with an average grain size of 10 µm. This grain size is small enough to be able to effectively bind pollutants, but still large enough not to get into the organism via the intestinal mucosa.
Proper use of zeolite
Zeolite can be used internally and externally.
The internal use of zeolite
- Always take zeolite alone, i.e. not with meals or together with other food supplements (except psyllium husk).
- There should be at least 2 hours between taking zeolite and medication.
- You can combine zeolite with psyllium husk powder. Other food supplements (vitamins, minerals, trace elements, antioxidants, base powder, etc.) should not be taken together with zeolite, but at least 30 minutes later or before. An interval of 1 to 2 hours is also better here.
- Take zeolite 1 to 3 times a day, e.g. in the morning on an empty stomach at least 30 minutes before breakfast and just before going to bed (2 to 3 hours after the last meal). A third dose can be taken around noon, again 30 minutes before lunch or 2 to 3 hours after. However, you will notice success even if you take it only once a day.
- 3 to 5 g of zeolite are recommended per day (up to 10 g). The daily amount is then distributed over the number of daily intakes. So if you take zeolite twice a day, you take 1.5 to 2.5 g each time. If you want to take zeolite three times a day, take 1 to 2 g each time.
- However, start slowly with small doses, e.g. with 1 g once a day and increase the dose and the frequency of intake continuously up to the desired dose.
- Only take zeolite for a long time if you have serious illnesses or if your symptoms have not improved after a short period of use or if they return after you stop using the zeolite. Otherwise, it is better to take zeolite for shorter intervals. For example: a 21-day treatment, then pause for 7 days before you repeat the 21-day treatment.
- Pregnant and breastfeeding women, children and people who take medication should consult their doctor before use.
- Zeolite can be taken in the form of zeolite powder that is stirred into liquids. But you can also take zeolite capsules if the zeolite taste is not desired. But don’t forget to drink enough water with the capsules either!
External use of zeolite
There are at least as many areas of application for external use of zeolite as for internal use.
- Face masks with zeolite are used against pimples, blackheads and oily skin.
- As a shampoo substitute, clays absorb oil and dirt from the scalp
- Compressions for rheumatism, joint and limb pain as well as broken bones promote healing processes, have an anti-inflammatory and analgesic effect.
- Poultice for burns and poorly healing wounds accelerate healing.
- Poultice for insect bites or itchy skin rashes reduce pain and itching and pull the toxins that are causing them out of the skin.
In the case of large rashes, for example, you can rub the skin with cream and dry zeolite dust over it. However, do not inhale the powder, wear a dust mask if necessary (hardware store).
Normally, you mix zeolite and water with a paste that is easy to spread and apply it to a cloth or directly to the appropriate skin area. Let the mix work for about half an hour. It should be applied so thickly (3 – 4 mm) that it cannot completely dry out in half an hour. The pulp should still be damp when you take it off or wash it off. Otherwise, it will dry out the skin.

Cleansing programs with zeolite
In addition to the individual application of zeolite, zeolite is also available as a component for internal cleansing and detoxification, e.g. Zeolite instead of bentonite can be part of a colon cleanse.
